As the 2017-18 Common Read, Armstrong students, faculty and staff have access to NYTimes.com, New York Times mobile apps, and New York Times in Education. The campus-wide subscription is funded from the Office of First Year Experience as well as the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Education, the College of Science and Technology, the College of Health Professions and the Office of Academic Affairs.
Use the instructions provided below to set up your individual account with the New York Times.
Get started using these steps:
Navigate to the registration page for Armstrong's subscription (http://accessnyt.com/)
Create your account using your Armstrong email address (@armstrong.edu; @stu.armstrong.edu)
Once you have registered, you will be able to access NYTimes.com from any location. Just Log In using the option in the upper right corner of the NYTimes.com page.
Visit nytimes.com/mobile to download your free NYTimes apps.
Faculty will benefit from the resources on the New York Times in Education site, also included in the campus subscription. The site requires a separate account, set up using an Armstrong email address.
Why use a NYTimes.com account to read The New York Times online?
The New York Times requires a paid subscription for full access to its website NYTimes.com; without a subscription, visitors may only read up to 10 free articles per month. A NYTimes.com campus subscription account gives you unlimited access to all content on the site, except for a limited number of articles from 1923 to 1980.
I already have a NYT digital subscription giving me unlimited access to NYTimes.com. What should I do?
If you have an existing digital subscription, you will not be able to activate an NYTimes.com campus account. Please contact email@example.com to discuss your options.
What are the restrictions?
You need to be connected to your institution’s network to activate the NYTimes.com campus account. At this time, access to articles from 1923 to 1980 is limited to five articles per person per day for the entire duration of the campus subscription.
Can I access NYTimes.com from off-campus?
Yes, as long as you have previously activated your NYTimes.com account from within the Armstrong network.
Can I access NYTimes.com from my mobile device?
All NYTimes.com campus subscription accounts provide full access to NYT apps; visit nytimes.com/mobile to download. Access NYTimes.com on any device with a browser (computer, smartphone, or tablet). Mobile apps are supported by most devices.
Why am I asked to log in on some occasions and not others?
This may be because your browser may clear its web cache/history if it is set to do so. In such cases you will need to log back into NYTimes.com using your Armstrong email address and the password you set when you registered your NYT account.
